Every day that is not a Wednesday in August, I will be offering something as a prompt for writing in honor of CampNaNo. For the second week, these will be inquiries into whatever you’re writing right now, taking a closer look at the characters.
We all have responsibilities, whether they are to jobs, school, family, or something else that we hold dear. Even the most amoral of characters tend to have rules and limits that they will not cross. How do your characters responsibilities frame their life within the story? Do they live up to their duties, or does the story develop because they let them lapse? Do responsibilities sneak in to steal the character’s focus from the plot, or do they serve to add focus?
Your task is to write something–ANYTHING!–based on this prompt. Whether it is 100 words or a thousand, or even the inspiration for a new novel or story, all I want you to do is write. And if you do write, and are comfortable posting it online, please post to your own blog and link to the comments here or on Facebook, or you can post directly into the comments or on my wall!
