PhotoFlash #8

Welcome to PhotoFlash!

Each week I will post a photograph (mine, so that means you get to deal with my artistic sensibilities or lack thereof). I’ll tell you where I took it, what my thoughts were at the time. Then you (anyone who’s interested) respond with a tiny bit of flash, whether essay or fiction, that’s inspired by that photograph. It doesn’t have to be about the photograph… take it wherever it leads your imagination! Just because it’s foliage doesn’t mean you need to write about flowers. I’ll post my own response to it in the comments sometime during the day.

Please feel free to post your ficlets on your own site and link back. Please feel free to pass this around to others! The more the merrier.

And now, PhotoFlash #8:

the road and river up to Lake Placid

This was taken while we were traveling to Lake Placid on May a few years back.

It’s a long and winding road, and an equally long river. It was as placid as the lake itself that day, and absolutely gorgeous. I couldn’t resist pulling over into a scenic viewpoint to take pictures as we traveled up the mountain. I wish I’d managed to get pictures on the way back down the mountain on Sunday, when this same vista was covered in the snow that fell for Mother’s Day.

About D. E. Atwood

When D.E. Atwood was in second grade, she finally grew tall enough to see the shelf above the mysteries in the bookmobile. She discovered a rich landscape of alternate worlds, magic, and space and has never looked back from the genres of fantasy and science fiction. When she was twelve, she declared that she was going to be a writer, and share the stories that she saw happening all around her. She wanted to create characters that others would care about, and that would touch their lives, like the books that she read had touched her own life. Today she has combined her interests, creating genre stories about the people who live next door, bringing magic into the world around us. When not writing, D.E. Atwood is a mother (to two children and a cat), a wife, a reader, a knitter, a systems administrator, a roleplayer, and a music aficionado. Sleep, she claims, is optional.
