Re-emerging After a Hiatus

I bet y’all have been wondering where I disappeared to.

I took some time off from writing original work. That isn’t to say that I haven’t been writing. In fact, I’ve written over 500,000 words so far this year! But they haven’t been publishable words. However, they have definitely been an exercise in learning more about fluidity of word choice, how to plot, character creation (and using quick, broad strokes to create strong side characters or backstory). I’ve done a lot of work this year, and I hope it has paid off as I move forward and get back into the business of writing.

In other news, not only have I been writing like a madwoman, I’ve also been training crazy hard for tae kwon do, and am approaching my black belt test (next May, and yes, I will tell you everything about it when it happens, with video, I hope). I have been dealing with my son starting middle school, and my daughter being in high school and starting to look at colleges. Life is change, and it is constantly chaotic and stressful and wonderful, all at once.

But yes, I am back, and with luck, I’ll get back into some regular posts, starting with some news coming up soon.

I’m also going to change up my format a bit, and indulge in my fannish side on occasion. Don’t expect fanfic; that’s not what this blog is for. But you can expect discussions of things I love, both from the fannish and from the taking-that-apart-to-learn perspectives. Yes, real live authors are fans too, and my tastes are all over the place musically, book-wise, artistically, TV & movie-wise. It could be a roller coaster and confusing, but hopefully you’ll put up with me.

Welcome back to those who’ve stuck with me while I’ve been silent, and welcome to those who are newly following me either here or on Twitter, Tumblr, or Facebook. You are all incredible people, and I hope to not just talk to you, but interact with you. Please feel free to send me email, drop me an Ask on Tumblr, tweet at me, or contact me in any way.

Stop back in tomorrow, and I will catch you up on the status of my professional life!

About D. E. Atwood

When D.E. Atwood was in second grade, she finally grew tall enough to see the shelf above the mysteries in the bookmobile. She discovered a rich landscape of alternate worlds, magic, and space and has never looked back from the genres of fantasy and science fiction. When she was twelve, she declared that she was going to be a writer, and share the stories that she saw happening all around her. She wanted to create characters that others would care about, and that would touch their lives, like the books that she read had touched her own life. Today she has combined her interests, creating genre stories about the people who live next door, bringing magic into the world around us. When not writing, D.E. Atwood is a mother (to two children and a cat), a wife, a reader, a knitter, a systems administrator, a roleplayer, and a music aficionado. Sleep, she claims, is optional.
